Beschorneria was named in honor of Friedrich Wilhelm Christian Beschorner 1806-73, a German amateur botanist. This plant was a mutation discovered on a non-variegated Beschorneria yuccoides in a garden near Hamilton, New Zealand in 2005 by landscape designer Graeme Burton of Ohaupo, New Zealand. Beschorneria Yuccoides, as already mentioned, is native to Mexico and was named in honour of the 19th century German botanist Friedrich Wilhelm Christian Beschorner.

The Yuccoides bit is of course a reference to the appearance of the leaves, which do, however, lack the sharp spines on the end. Beschorneria is usually acquired as a single rosette and should not be extortionate in price.
